I love this word, partly because it’s Greek, meaning to scatter across. I had to look up how to pronounce it in English because I’d forgotten. I also love the imagery it brings up, people scattered like seeds across the world, growing into something new. I once read an interview with my favorite Greek singer, Giorgos Dalaras, and he was talking about the Greek diaspora in America. He said they were a completely different people and I’m sure that’s true. Not that they are better or worse, just new and different.
